These are sturdily built garden clippers, each half is a solid piece and the spring and locking clip are made out of thick gauge wire. The curve helps keep larger branches in the clipper as you try to cut it. The only improvement I would have made is to add some serrations to the curved thin part to better hold and dig in to the branch.

I was able to cut branches up to almost an inch with a good 2 handed squeeze. The rubber grips are comfortable and non-slip which helps as well.
