This is my first time shaving with a safety razor. I’ve used Mach 3 Cartridges ever since I started shaving but recently have been considering trying out an old fashioned safety razor. Ten days of shaving later and I do plan on keeping it up. It’s slightly more time consuming than using a cartridge or electric razor but definitely more satisfying. The first time I used it my face was a little irritated and had a few “weepers” but nothing serious. After using this blade for 10 days shaving about every other day it got progressively better. I’m not sure if I just prefer a less sharp blade (the included Astra Platinum blades are in the “very sharp” category when you look online to compare blades) or if it was just my face getting used to it. I’ve read that you should only expect a few shaves out of each blade but this blade shows no signs of pulling on the hairs yet either so maybe my facial hair just isn’t very tough on razors.
As for the shave quality: it’s closer than either a cartridge or electric, especially if the cartridge razor is starting to get a little dull.
The razor itself has a nice weight to it and the shiny chrome rinses off easily. The knurling on the handle makes it not slippery at all to hold. It screws together easily and clamps the blade securely. All very nice.
