This package comes in 36 colors and they did a very thorough job of keeping the colors even. There are several different shades of each primary color. I tested these pencils out on several pictures over the last few days. I tried to use the different shades best I could. In the red roses, I used 4 different pencils in different shades of red. The green leaves have 3 different pencils in different shades of green. Then I colored in a daisy using as many of the colors I could.
These pencils blend together very well. I used a blender pencil (If you have never tried a blender pencil you might want to try one, they are really nice). I printed a shoe with flowers off the internet onto a piece of printer paper and the pencils blended together really nice.
The pencils arrived sharpened, but I always re-sharpen them before and during use to keep the point I prefer. I was happy to see they sharpen easily, and did not break during sharpening. Another bit of advice, invest in a really good manual sharpener.
